“Ugh, damn” – this is because the translation of the film’s title seemed well… stupid to me. It’s not that the original title “Your Highness” seemed particularly successful to me, but the play on words in the American version is still much more interesting and has at least some relation to the film itself.
Well, to hell with the title, the main thing is that the film is not bad. Well, now I’ll kind of talk about him incoherently and crumpledly. Below there will be a swear word and one spoiler.
Brave Pepper (EPTA) was on my list of the most anticipated films of spring at number two, right after the new pirates (bald diesels, comicsoid tori and other evil spirits do not evoke any emotions in me) so expectations were high. A month and a half ago, after watching the trailer, I decided that I would watch this film in the cinema. But there were two factors that made me anxious. Firstly, it’s absolutely obvious that all these wonderful obscenities, all these “dicks” and “assholes” in our dubbing will be lost and we’ll have to again taste Lenten tedium instead of hellish annealing, as is usually the case. And secondly: the first two-thirds of the trailer were funny and indecent, but towards the end the epic music came in and the stupid action began, and I don’t particularly like it when, in the middle of a film, the genre of the film suddenly changes. Such abrupt transitions simply ruin all that atmosphere. And thank God, that didn’t happen here.
In the last third of the film (after cutting off the minotaur’s dick – which is essentially the apogee of the first, vulgar part of the film), heroic action really takes precedence over comedy, sarcasm, gags become fewer, but this does not spoil the movie at all. Although, of course, it’s a pity that Zavidy, who in the finale becomes an almost lyrical character, didn’t turn into a kind of medieval Bender (but there were makings).
As for the translation – yes, this is by no means Goblin or even the translators from Kino-Govno.com, but after the phrase:
my heart was relieved. Although one question https://casino-moana.uk/ still remains: why the hell were all these allusions to Russian reality needed?? "Finist" – why? At least two references to “Ivan Vasilyevich is changing his profession” – what for?? This does not give the film any additional depth, no matter what the translators themselves think about it, it is simply stupid and unnecessary.
Well, okay, kicking our translators is a thankless job, especially since in general they did a good job here.
Regarding the actors – in my opinion, everyone here is good without exception. Heroic Slavius (James Franco)
despite his heroism, he turned out to be very lively and I liked his attitude towards his less fortunate and heroic brother – not patronizing and arrogant, but friendly and sympathetic. There was definitely sincerity in this character, despite the fact that his brotherly feelings for Zavidy were sometimes comedically exaggerated, and such things always touch me, regardless of the film genre and in general.
Zavidy himself
cowardly and arrogant, which, apparently, is meant by Your Highness, is also good. In fact, it is his actions and his changes as a person that drive the plot and, in principle, despite the fact that I expected him to remain a cowardly and arrogant but funny scoundrel until the end of the film, I liked the character. It’s not often you see character development in a comedy.
Well, the rest of the actors are not bad either. Ramus Hardiker (I couldn’t find his photo) aka Courtney – Zavid’s squire, plays the role of such a now traditional stupid assistant. Great ladies – Zooey Deschanel and Natalie Portman.
And yes – Justin Theroux
aka Lizar coped with the role just perfectly. Of the supporting characters, I liked him the most.
Despite its comedic essence, the film turned out to be quite meaty. And not comedic-meaty, but truly meaty. Apparently, the creators, realizing that they still wouldn’t see a “children’s” rating, decided to have a blast and fill everything here with bloody blood. And it’s a little daunting at first, yeah. If during the scene with the head of the Cyclops (blood flows from the torn neck, some fragments are dangling) the audience was still giggling, then after the first serious battle scene everyone calmed down somewhat. But again, this doesn’t spoil the impression.
In general, the impressions of the film are similar to those after watching, oddly enough, “Zack and Mirri Make a Porno”. That is, on the one hand, the film is vulgar, there are really a lot of jokes below the belt, but this does not make the film “dirty”, and all because it is based on a story about love, duty, friendship and other bullshit, so be sure to go to the cinema if you are already fourteen.
Update: it’s not clear for whom the text was written – those who have already watched it won’t be interested in reading all this, those who haven’t watched it won’t understand anything from what’s written. But if something in the text still interests you, at least go to Kinopoisk or somewhere else and read a clear review, and then run to the cinema, because the film is really good.
